The Fall Recruiting Calendar

There are a lot of universities and colleges out there, with each one offering a host of programs and opportunities. Our last post discussed the decision-making process that goes into attending graduate school. So maybe you have decided that you are definitely interested. One way to learn more about graduate institutions and programs is to attend your school’s graduate fair.

Many schools, particularly those that do not offer graduate programs, offer a fall graduate fair. At this event, representatives from schools across the state, and even country, will be available. They can help answer your questions, take your contact information, and provide school literature.

What to ask Admissions Representatives

About.com offers list of questions to ask representatives from different schools. The following list is paraphrased:

1. What characteristics are specific to this program and make it unique?

2. What do most students do after graduation?

3. What types of financial aid are available?

4. Are there any scholarships or fellowships? How do I apply?

5. Are there practical experiences built into this program?

6. What is the importance of test scores, GPA, letters of recommendation, personal statements, etc?

7. How are mentoring and advising relationships established?

8. What is the average length of study for this program?

9. Do most students live on or near campus?

Admissions counselors are there to help. Don't be shy!
